Sasha Gordon paints captivating figurative works that address themes of self-image, exoticization, mental illness, and the male gaze. Gordon quickly became known for her paintings featuring vibrant figures with gradient skin and vitreous eyes during her time studying painting at Rhode Island School of Design. Gordon’s practice is influenced by her identity as a biracial Asian woman and the many ways that society pressures her to conform. Before completing her studies, Gordon had already participated in group exhibitions in New York and Los Angeles. Gordon’s paintings often show subjects who are in some way uncomfortable or hyperaware of their own body, especially in relation to others.
